Turkish glass producing giant Sisecam and its Bulgarian entity Trakya Glass Bulgaria will be exhibitor for the second time after their start in 2007 at the Exhibition for EE & RES in Sofia. This year they will present at the 4th International EE&RES Congress for South-East Europe, the popular innovative glass units:
• Insulating glass unit incorporating low-E coating and insulating glass unit incorporating solar low-E coating.
• decrease heat loss up to 81% when compared with single glazing and up to 60% when compared with standard double glazing units. Therefore effective thermal insulation in winter is provided and heating expenses are reduced,
• decrease solar heat gains by 43% when compared with standard double glazing units. Therefore keep cooler in summer and cooling expenses are reduced.
Additionally, during the whole year the technology allows the sufficient light-inflow in the room.
As the insulating glass units will be demonstrated in test units, the visitors will have the opportunity to witness their performance.
The Company will also display the high performance, low iron, toughened, patterned glass used in solar thermal systems and photovoltaics.

Panel: Efficient Residential Lighting
How important is the lighting? The lighting accounts for 14% of all electricity consumption within the EU. The saving potential is 20% of all the lighting currently installed in Europe. Old and inefficient lighting technologies consume large amounts of energy. The investigation shows clearly that if no policies for improvement of energy efficiency are adopted, the energy consumption in the sector will increase rapidly.
At present the European Energy Efficient Residential Lighting Initiative is carried out, which has as its objective to increase significantly the efficiency of residential lighting through:
Introducing of CFL Charter that guarantees the CFL quality to the end-user;
Implementing of promotional campaigns in each country, according to the local specifics.
During the Panel, it is envisaged to discuss the barriers and their overcoming for increasing the Energy Efficiency in the Residential Sector. |

2) Energy news from Bulgaria |
Bulgarian building solar energy park in Rhodope mountains |
Local company Energy Investments has commenced work on a solar energy park near the village of Srednogortsi, Southern Bulgaria.
The installation of the solar panels will begin on October 10, 2008. The facility should be fully operational later that same month.
The solar energy park, with an output capacity of 45kW, will occupy only 0.15 ha but that footprint could later be extended to 5-10 ha.
Energy Investments has already sealed a deal to sell the power output to Austria's EVN at 0.72 levs/kW. The Austrian company owns the regional power distribution companies in Stara Zagora and Plovdiv.
The solar park investor is the majority owner of licensed power trader Energy Eco Trade.
Energy Investments is also developing a wind farm project in collaboration with Greek GP Energy
AES wind energy project awarded top investor distinction
AES Geo Energy, majority-owned by U.S. power company AES Corporation, said it has been issued a First Class Investor certificate for its 120 MW Kavarna wind project.
The certificate, granted by the Bulgarian investment promotion authority, entitles the investor to state funding for the construction of the necessary infrastructure.
Kavarna is expected to be operational by mid-2008 and will sell power to NEK, the national grid owner and operator, which provides preferential connection status for wind projects.
The 300 mln euro facility will produce over 450GWh.
The Kavarna park is part of AES' wind energy strategy for Bulgaria, said AES country manager for Bulgaria Peter Lithgow.
In 2006, AES bought a 40% stake in Geo Power Ltd., a Bulgarian-German renewable energy development firm, which will implement the Kavarna project.
AES is constructing AES Maritsa East 1, a 670 MW lignite-fired power plant, in Bulgaria.
The $1.4 billion project is the single largest foreign investment in Bulgaria's power sector and the largest greenfield investment in southeast Europe to date.
AES expects to generate almost 800 MW of power in Bulgaria by 2010 once AES Maritsa East 1 and the Kavarna project reach commercial operation.
Bulgaria fails to accredit CO2 emission report verifiers
A month before the Bulgarian corporations will be eligible to join the trading of greenhouse gas emission allowances under the EU Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Directive, no a single verifier of reports on CO2 emissions has been accredited, it emerged after Wednesday meeting between local businesses and Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance.
According to the ordinance on the CO2 emission reports, the verifiers will have to be accredited by the Bulgarian Accreditation Service (BAS).
The verifiers will have to be registered pursuant to the Commercial Code while the BAS will keep a register of accredited verifiers.
No such register is in existence and there have been no accreditation procedures so far.
According to unofficial information, BAS told interested parties there will be no accreditations of Bulgarian verifiers because the relevant methodology has not been drafted. No one at the service was available for comment.(
The Greek company Marivent Ltd . will invest 500 million euro in a wind-energy park near the town of Pernik , Bulgaria . The park's energy capacity is approximated at 800 MWh. Marivent announced that it had already signed a contract for the construction with local authorities.
The new plant will sell energy to the Bulgarian National Electric Company (NEC) for 20 years. Marivent plans to complete the project in less than 30 months. The company itself and EU funds would provide money for the project. Marivent expected 4.5 billion euro in revenues over the next 20 years. The project was considered one of the biggest in the sector in the EU.

Throughout the years the International Specialized Exhibition PROFILES accessories, machines, glass for doors & windows ( previous aluminium, PVC & wood profiles) has stablished itself as an effective means for making face-to-face contacts with industry professionals from Bulgaria and the Balkans.
During the past couple of years Bulgaria has observed a boom of construction all over the country. Its accession to the EU gave an impetus to this process and many Bulgarian construction and real estate companies are expanding their activities. International investors are opening offices and establishing joint ventures for new projects, billions of euro are being invested in summer and winter resorts, holiday villages, modern hotels and Spa centers, logistic centers, stores, etc. Old buildings and private houses are being retrofitted in accordance with new directions for energy efficiency, too.
Close historical and economical connections between the Balkan countries determine the similar tendencies that our neighbours are experiencing, and confirm ongoing trend for fast construction development in the whole Region. The intensive building process has brought forward the problem with energy efficiency in construction. Applying innovative construction materials and technologies has become a crucial factor for sustainable development and has urged the need for constant professional update.

SunEnergy furnished the solar church for the World Youth Day in Cologne from August 15-21,
in 2005.
In the center of the "global village" in the Beethovenhalle stood the solar church with its 102 monocrystalline Sharp-modules. With the erection of the environmentally-friendly village and the solar church, people promoted the protection of nature through renewable energies and sought to inform about climate protection and energy efficiency.
