This year the important forum for EE and RES industry in
Bulgaria was held for the second time. Statistical results and
positive feedback from speakers, exhibitors and delegates
show the real success of the event. At the first international
exhibition held parallel to the Congress companies had an
additional opportunity to show their newest products and
technologies for energy saving and application of renewable
energy sources. |
| |
“Climate change and dependency on energy are among the greatest challenges to EU
economies and energy sector. If adequate measures are not taken fast enough, in year 2030
Europe will be importing around 90% of its liquid fuel and 80% of the natural gas it needs.
All this will be in conditions of constant rising of fuel prices.” |
| Rumen Ovcharov, Minister of Economy and Energy, Bulgaria |

The Congress was held for 3 days and gathered over 350 leading professionals from companies,
government and local authorities, academic and research institutions and media. 35 speakers
from Bulgaria and 13 other countries shared their knowledge on the latest innovations, project
studies, research results and analyses in the sphere of EE and RES. The key-note speaker was
Prof. Arthouros Zervos, President of the European Association for Wind Energy and the
European Renewable Energy Council. |

Topics were presented in 4 main sessions covering:
• Legislation and policy measures
• Energy efficient retrofitting of existing buildings
• Technologies and equipment based on renewable energy
sources
• Funding and financial mechanisms and opportunities for
investment in clean energy. |
|
 |
| |
Invaluable knowledge and experience was shared by speakers from
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom and USA. Audience showed keen interest in topics such
as reducing energy consumption in buildings (for example energy parameters of window
frames and glass) and technologies for use of solar energy and biomass for heating, electricity
and industrial purposes, as well as biofuels. Lively discussions accompanied most of the
presentations. |
|
 |
| |
The overall aim of the Congress was to encourage investment in alternative energy in Bulgaria
and the region, as the Balkans have a very promising potential for development of renewable
sources. Besides, most of the residential buildings in the region desperately need thermal
insulation and retrofitting which could lead to 40-70% less loss of heat and a considerable
reduction of utility bills. This is a chance for foreign companies to explore this market niche
while there is still not much competition. Via Expo aimed at creating a favourable environment
for establishing useful business contacts and future partnerships between participants |
|
 |
| |
Another very perspective business opportunity for both European and Balkan companies is
emissions trade on which there was a special emphasis during the Congress. Additionally, a
dedicated workshop was held parallel to the forum, organised by two governmental agencies
– SenterNovem from the Netherlands and the Swedish Energy Agency. A representative of
the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters also outlined the country’s criteria and
procedures for JI projects. |
|
 |
| |
Strong promotional campaign before and during the event ensured that the right people
visited the Congress. It included adverts and publications in 8 international specialised
magazines based in 6 European countries, as well as a number of web sites with links and
banners for the event. In Bulgaria our message was spread with the help of 3 national
radio stations and 9 industry magazines and newspapers. 25,000 brochures were mailed to
targeted audience and over 10,000 invitations for visiting the exhibition. |

| Companies from Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Italy and United Kingdom showed directly their newest products and technologies. 13 other countries were represented by their Bulgarian partners – Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Turkey and USA. Exhibitors presented systems based on wind energy, solar energy, bio energy, heating technologies, panels, materials and systems for thermal insulation, gas installations, energy from waste, etc. |

|
| |
 |
| All participants were satisfied from the high level of organisation of the show and most of all – from the useful contacts established during the 4 days of the exhibition. They expressed their intention to participate next year, too.
|
|
| |
|
|

 |
| The exhibition met the requirements of both exhibitors and visitors. Over 3,000 specialists and companies benefited from the opportunity to introduce themselves first-hand to the products displayed and to establish direct contacts with manufacturers and distributors. |

The strenuous conference days are behind us and we feel very proud to have further improved our event from last year by bringing more themes, more participants and launching a new trade show. We hope to go forward with even more national and international participation next year and make both events a leading hub for the EE businesses in the region. Those who deal with energy don’t have to worry about keeping the story exciting – it happens all by itself. Just imagine all renewables ….
… and get ready for Energy and Technology 2007 in Bulgaria. To participate, please do not hesitate to contact the organisers Via Expo.
